Healthy Active Learning Community Connector – Ruapehu

Sport Whanganui are looking for a Healthy Active Learning Community Connector to be based in the Ruapehu region to play a critical role in the implementation of Healthy Active Learning. It is a part time position of 20 hours.

Community Connectors support schools and communities to identify, plan and implement opportunities for quality play, sport, and physical activity experiences for tamariki.

As the Healthy Active learning Community Connector, you will be part of a team of Healthy Active Learning Advisors working across ten local primary schools. This role involves developing and maintaining strong meaningful relationships with schools and community providers through sustainable opportunities and interventions. Through this approach we will work alongside whanau, local health, and physical activity providers to help improve health and wellbeing outcomes for our tamariki.

The Healthy Active Learning Community Connector will be based in the Ruapehu Districts, have a growth mindset, a passion for physical activity, display social/emotional intelligence, embrace inclusivity and diversity to achieve desired results.

What is Healthy Active Learning?

Healthy Active Learning is a joint government initiative between Sport New Zealand and the Ministries of Health and Education to improve the wellbeing of children and young people through healthy eating, drinking and quality physical activity.

The initiative is part of the Government’s Child, Youth and Wellbeing Strategy and has three components:

  1. New Health and Physical Education and Hauora (HPE) curriculum resources (Ministry of Education).
  2. Toolkits and a health promotion workforce to support adoption and implementation of healthy food and water-only policies (Ministry of Health).
  3. A physical activity workforce (Sport NZ).

Regional Sports Trusts will partner with Sport New Zealand to employ the physical activity workforce that will work with approximately 800 primary and intermediate schools and kura.

Healthy Active Learning Community Connectors will work with up to 10 primary, and intermediate schools and kura and their communities with the following expected outcomes:

  • Tamariki are supported to make positive and informed choices about food, nutrition, and physical activity.
  • Tamariki are supported to develop critical perspectives about food, nutrition, and physical activity.
  • Tamariki are actively and positively engaged in learning.
  • School and kura cultures, environments and processes value and prioritise quality physical activity and nutrition that meets students’ needs.
  • Schools, kura and communities provide access to healthy food and quality physical activity.

Ideally applicants will have a tertiary qualification in a relevant field, and / or vast experience and a strong track record in business management. Knowledge and experience of Xero accounting software is preferred.

2025 New Zealand Masters Games Event Team

Vacancies – 2025 New Zealand Masters Games Event Team

We are seeking three local professionals with event experience to join us in delivering New Zealand’s longest running and largest Masters multisport event and putting Whanganui on the map!

The New Zealand Masters Games unites people and communities through sport and play, and will be hosted in Whanganui from Friday, January 31 to Sunday, February 9, 2025.

We have three key roles responsible for coordinating the main elements that make this national event a success:

  • Our Marketing Coordinator will lead marketing and promotional efforts to drive awareness, registrations, engagement, and loyalty for the 2025 Games. The ideal candidate will be a marketing expert with design and social media skills. This role starts at the beginning of June.
  • Our Sports Coordinator will liaise with and support sports organisers in executing the sports programme for the 2025 Games. The ideal candidate will have exceptional relationship, problem-solving, and planning skills. This role starts at the beginning of June.
  • Our Village Coordinator will oversee the volunteer programme and coordinate Games Village activities to enhance the 2025 Games experience. The ideal candidate will have outstanding relationship, communication, and planning skills. This role starts at the beginning of August.
