Tamariki and rangatahi want to have positive experiences in sport, active recreation and play.

The good news is we can all contribute to positive change. Clubs, coaches, umpires, referees, whānau, and tamariki and rangatahi themselves, can make small changes that have an impact.

Sport Whanganui works with Sport New Zealand to deliver positive change programmes and initiatives at a regional level. Check out how below or view our Resources for Clubs page for more useful links.

It’s My Move

Driven by nationwide research that indicates a significant drop off in young women’s sport and recreation participation, Sport New Zealand’s #itsmymove campaign focuses on supporting young women in Aotearoa to get active and stay active.

Sport Whanganui spoke with five local kōhine (young women) about how they like to be active in our region – watch their stories in the videos below. Know someone who’d be a great local #itsmymove ambassador? Get in touch!

Balance Is Better

The key to making positive change is listening to our tamariki and rangatahi to better understand what ingredients build a better sport experience.

Balance is Better is a nationwide initiative designed to encourage participation in youth sport by creating positive sport experiences.
