Managers:
Every day, Sport Whanganui works alongside schools, clubs, whānau, community groups and partners to create opportunities for people to be active, connected, and well.
By leaving a gift in your will, you can help ensure future generations have the same opportunities to play, participate, develop confidence and experience the lifelong benefits of physical activity.
Every gift makes a difference. There is no ‘right’ amount to leave. Some people choose to leave a percentage of their estate, while others leave a specific amount, property, shares or other assets. Every gift can contribute to positive, lasting change across our region.
How your gift could help
Unless you would like your gift to support a specific purpose, we encourage gifts to be left for general purposes. This allows Sport Whanganui to direct support where it is needed most and where it can have the greatest impact.
Future gifts may help:
- Remove barriers to participation by contributing to programme costs, fees, equipment or transport.
- Strengthen local clubs and community organisations.
- Develop leadership opportunities for young people.
- Ensure Sport Whanganui can continue responding to changing community needs for years to come.
Types of gifts
There are several ways you can leave a gift in your will.
- A Percentage gift – a nominated percentage of your whole estate.
- A Residual gift – all or part of the remainder of your estate once all other gifts and commitments have been fulfilled.
- A Specific gift – a particular asset, such as property, shares, or other valuables.
- A Pecuniary Gift – a nominated sum of money.
How to leave a gift in your will
Choose your beneficiaries
Beneficiaries are the people and organisations you would like to include in your will. These typically include loved ones, followed by any charities or causes you wish to support. We encourage you to discuss your decision with your whānau.
Decide on the type of gift
You may choose to leave a percentage, residual, pecuniary, or specific gift.
Writing a will
We recommend seeking independent legal advice when making or updating your will to ensure your wishes are properly recorded and reflect your personal circumstances.
