River City Waka Ama

River City Waka Ama is a whānau-centred paddling club based in Whanganui, dedicated to fostering connection, wellbeing, and pride through waka ama. Established to make the sport accessible for everyone from tamariki to kaumātua.

RCWA promotes teamwork, discipline, and respect for Te Awa Tupua.

We welcome everyone from those wanting to learn for the first time, to experienced paddlers keen to compete at regional and national levels. Our programmes include school partnerships, youth development clinics, community “Have-a-Go” days, and training for competitive teams.

Our kaupapa is simple: He waka eke noa – we’re all in this waka together.
Through waka ama, we strengthen whānau, build confidence, teach water safety, and nurture future leaders both on and off the water.
