2026 Subway St. Johns Youth Road Cycling Series

Whether you’re new or already riding, our youth road series is your chance to build skills, push yourself, see what you’re capable of, and meet an awesome crew along the way!

Who can take part?

Youth under 19 years
Age Grades: U19, U17, U15, U13, U10

You’ll need to:

• Be confident riding on the road
• Understand basic road rules
• Be able to ride at least 8km non-stop

What do I need?

A bike and a good attitude. That’s it. (No lycra required!)

• No road bike? No problem, ride what you’ve got to start!
• We have a fleet of club road bikes available for hire
• Helmets available if needed

How it works

A 6-week graded road series designed to build confidence and skills.

• Starting opposite Whanganui River Holiday Park
• Out-and-back course on Papaiti Road
• Short course (up to 8km)
• Long course (up to 20km) – if conditions and experience permit
• Different race formats to keep things interesting and help you improve

• Wednesday April 22
• Wednesday April 29
• Wednesday May 6
• Wednesday May 13
• Wednesday May 20
• Wednesday May 27

Event Schedule

• 3:45pm – Registration opens
• 4:00pm – Registration closes
• 4:00pm – Compulsory race briefing
• Racing starts straight after

We’ll be wrapped up by 5:00pm…with snacks and a bit of post-race banter!

$5 per night

School groups will be invoiced at the end of term.

Membership
By registering for the series you also receive a club youth membership. There is no separate membership fee outside of the $5 per event subscription for Youth. Thanks for supporting us!

Good to Know

• You only need to register once for the whole series, whether you can make all races or only a few – please regsiter online below
• Club hire bikes available for the term – $30
• Working front & rear lights encouraged
• Weekly results & photos shared on our Facebook + Website
• If the weather makes it unsafe we’ll post cancellations by 2pm Wednesdays
• Spot prizes every week thanks to Subway St. Johns + Rider of the Day
