Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi, engari he toa takitini

Our strength does not come from ourselves alone, our strength derives from the many.

Sport Whanganui is a Regional Sports Trust (RST) and is funded through regional contracts, sponsorship and funding applications.  Our aim is for every member in our community across our region – Whanganui, Rangitīkei and Ruapehu – to be active. We will do this by activating, connecting and strengthening our communities to enhance their health and wellbeing.

Grounded in Te Tiriti o Waitangi, we strengthen diversity and inclusion through a place-based approach that values local knowledge, tikanga, and aspirations. We create opportunity, advocate, equip, empower, partner, support and inspire. Our Strategic Plan 2026-2029 sets out our pathway to achieving our vision for Whanganui, Ruapehu and Rangitīkei to be the most active communities in the motu.

Sport Whanganui is governed by a Board of Trustees and our main funding partners are Sport NZ, Te Whatu Ora, New Zealand Community Trust, Grassroots Trust, and The Lion Foundation. We also partner with other like-minded organisations such as territorial authorities, trusts and corporate sponsors.
