The Give a Kid a Go – Regional Student Support Fund provides financial support for children and young people to take part in their chosen sport. 

The Give a Kid a Go Fund aims to remove some of the financial barriers to participation for children and young people aged 5 – 19 years old. Backed by community partners, 100% of the fund goes towards supporting young people to participate in sport across the Whanganui, Ruapehu and Rangitīkei Districts. 

Applications are welcome from schools and whānau/families up to twice per year.

FAQs

Who can apply?

Family members or schools applying for a young person aged between 5-19 years old, who lives in the Whanganui, Ruapehu or Rangitīkei region. 

How much can I apply for?

The amount that can be funded will be dependent on what has been generated from community contributions to the fund. 

The maximum amount any individual can apply for is $150 per application.

When can I apply?

The fund is open to applications from 1 August 2024. Applications can be made at any time via the online form link at the top of this page. Individuals can apply up to twice each year (i.e. once for winter sports and once for summer sports). 

What can be funded?

This is a sport fund for students aged 5-19 years to help cover sports fees associated with participation in a local sport competition. Sport related costs include club/school sports registration or participation fees. 

The fund will not cover: 

  • Costs that are already funded by other sources. 
  • Costs associated with high performance athletes or representative fees. 
  • Costs that are not the responsibility of the athlete to cover (facility maintenance, officials, prizes etc).
  • Travel, uniform or equipment costs.
  • Participation in events or sports programmes outside the Whanganui, Rangitīkei and Ruapehu districts. 

How do I apply?

Applications are closed and all funding allocated for 2024.
