Managers:
Our very first Battle of the Codes was held on Tuesday as part of national Youth Week. The event for secondary students was a huge success with 130 rangatahi completing an interactive course.
A relay event with a twist, students from different schools competed in mixed teams of four on behalf of their chosen winter sports code. Rugby, hockey, football and a combined basketball and netball category went for glory on the day, with the trophy being taken out by basketball/netball.
The course consisted of four different legs which included running, crawling under cargo nets, hockey, basketball, rugby & football skills and an egg & spoon section.
YESS Council students played a large part in organising the event, including securing spot prizes, organising a putting competition, core roles and Sport Whanganui Instagram take-over during the event.
With the inaugural event being such a success, we look forward to holding it again in the coming years.
